Mission

To help alleviate poverty among underprivileged populations in rural areas through providing food and establishing an innovative Cohort micro-finance system (CMS) to provide food, education, and healthcare.

Vision

Our vision is to alleviate poverty in the neighborhoods we serve and to enhance the education and wellbeing of the children living there.

The Need

Global poverty rates have been cut by over half since 2000, but the Coronovirus pandemic upended the status quo. The projected impact of the pandemic is 420 million — 580 million people living in poverty. About 265 million people around the world were forecasted to face acute starvation by the end of 2020. The World Food Program estimated that 300,000 deaths could occur per day due to the resulting “hunger pandemic.” Poverty, which all too often results in hunger and malnutrition, limits access to education and healthcare.

Our Impact

We feed the poor and the elderly who are hungry in underprivileged neighborhoods.

Through sustainable Cohort Microfinance Systems (CMS), we develop social entrepreneurship for profitable and sustainable self-sufficiency in order to provide food, education, and healthcare for the family.

We select a neighborhood and group entrepreneurs into a Cohort based on their skills, providing training to help them work together and be accountable for each other. Once a month, we hold meetings to get feedback, as well as provide expert counsel so that they can be successful in their entrepreneurship. We help them grow as a team and “graduate” to be self-sustaining.

While feeding the poor is an ongoing program, we intend to start a pilot program for CMS to create sustainable income for impoverished individuals.

Special Projects

Manavar adds a van to feed and heal

Thanks to Brickman’s family, Manavar has been blessed with a new van to distribute food to children and to the community and provide health needs of the children and people in Tambaram suburbs.

Free Water Distribution

As we sunk a bore well to provide water for the Mettupalayam center, India, TN, God gave us more water than we needed. So Manavar decided to erect a storage tank and provide free drinking water to the community, since it struggles to get potable water. It was opened for public use on February 14,...

Feeding the Homeless

As a special service, Manavar provides 100 to 200 cooked meals to the homeless in Madurai and Chennai once a week. Manavar also provides groceries to needy families, a service that grew more and more necessary over the course of the pandemic.

Your donation will go towards the following:

Preparation of 200 cooked meals and distribution among the homeless every week. Each meal costs from $0.70 to $0.90. The total cost per month varies, from $700 - $800 in total per month.
Feeding hungry children that come in for tutoring.
Periodic distribution of groceries to the poor.
Microfinance education for impoverished individuals to help them achieve self-sustainability.
